I’ve been blessed to follow and study with many great teachers along this path. My first Ashtanga teachers, Heather Land and Jill Butson, instilled in me the enthusiasm to learn more. Effie Wood took an interest in me and guided me along toward teaching with confidence. Rossella Rossi inspired me to invest in the daily work and discipline of practicing from the beginning, the foundation practice of the Ashtanga Primary Series. Eddie Modestini and Nicki Doane invited me to their home studio on Maui, where I learned basics, details, patience, and a broader calling to care for the planet and all living beings. David Swenson showed me what a practical way of life this can be, and his lovely wife Shelley Washington made me feel loved and helped open my heart further with her sparkling presentation of the practice. Mike Matthews reminds me to keep my breath, bandha and dristi in tact, and also how fun this is, especially when you can practice surrounded by dear friends. Certified Ashtanga teacher Tim Miller is my guru, heavy with knowledge, experience, and displaying every single quality in a teacher that one would hope for. I will keep returning to Tim’s teachings and the Encinitas yoga center to absorb the most I can and be humbled by what I observe. It is like passing through fire to practice there, and once again I am reminded to surrender to the Divine. My studies with Tim Miller include 300 hours of training intensives on the Ashtanga Primary and Intermediate Series.
My personal daily practice is focused upon Nadi Sodhana (Intermediate Series) and the first portion of Sthira Bhaga (Advanced A). Each day is a unique experience.
As a teacher, my hope is to clearly convey the Ashtanga method as I have been taught, in a loving yet disciplined manner, and to inspire others toward discovering more about themselves through the practice of yoga.
