Are you new to Ashtanga or yoga in general?

At Yoga Shala, we want to make sure that your first class is a wonderful experience. We are dedicated to giving you the fundamentals needed to feel comfortable. We give you the tools needed to break down the fundamentals of the Ashtanga system. We also offer some other styles of yoga that are suitable for beginners.
This class implements the elements of vinyasa, synchronizing breath with movement. We will begin with Surya namaskara (sun salutations), standing postures and some seated postures. The instructor will also offer ideas on preparing for and building skills in some of the more challenging ashtanga poses. The class will conclude with the traditional backbends and finishing sequence of postures, leading to a relaxed state of rest. It's all in the name, this class is for the beginner ashtangi and all levels are welcome.
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays 10am; Sundays at 12:30pm
This class is designed to relieve stress and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. We use props to support the postures, while gently stretching and strengthening the body. This class is appropriate for students of all levels.
When: Wednesdays and Fridays at 12pm
Vinyasa: Beginner Level 1
The beginner class will offer necessary warm-ups to loosen and prepare the body for basic standing, seated, and reclined postures. There will be humor provided, necessary to ease the mind! As always there will be focus on anatomy and proper alignment as we moderately practice our yoga poses.
When: Sundays at 10:30am
Ashtanga- Half Primary Series
Slightly more advanced than the Ashtanga Fundamentals Class, this class focuses on the Ashtanga Half Primary Series: breathing techniques, bhandas (muscle locks), sun salutations, standing postures, introduction to the seated postures, and finishing postures, following in sequence, the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. This class is good for people who want to begin understanding the sequence of Ashtanga. Similar to the Ashtanga Fundamentals class, but will be a little more fast-paced and will complete all of the standing asanas and most of the seated asanas.
When: Thursdays at 6:30pm
